Monokular
(German)
or Monocular in English is an optical instrument
that has a single eye window designed for viewing
objects at great distances.
More
and more people are in search of cheap and
compact equipment when it comes to outdoor
adventures like site-seeing, bird watching, hunting
etc. which is why a monokular could be perfect for
you!
Monokulars are
small prism binoculars for magnification of details
at great distances and they have become quite
popular for it's small demensions and light weight.
Monoculars range in size
from as small as the Minox MD 6x16 which is one of
the smallest pocket telescopes measuring at only
81
x 32 x 20 mm (weight 3.70 oz / 105 g) up to some of
the larger versions which include the Zen-Ray ZRS
HD-M 8x42 waterproof monocular and although larger
in size, it's still quite light.
I personally like
monoculars with a light weight design but with tough
construction, preferably made out of an all metal
alloy with a prism coated lens. I only go for
waterproof designs as I take my optics in all types
of terrain. And, high definition resolution on
the lens is also a must.
Look at a few consumer
review websites like epinions.com for feedback from
consumers who actually own various monocular type
optics and check out as many binocular merchants you
can as a lot of them will have cheap discounts on
older models as well as mono cular coupons to reduce
the price.
Some popular name brands
of monokulars include Meade Bresser, Nobilem,
Eschenbach, Kalinka, Minox, Bushnell, Opticron and
Spektiv.
